At the first house, carpet was torn from the stairway, the landing and the upstairs bedrooms. Gray-brown vinyl plank covers those floors and every stair tread today, and the steps and second story match.
A second house had carpet in its upstairs bedrooms and on the landing. We stripped it to the subfloor, rolled underlayment across and fitted brown oak-look laminate, adding white baseboards and a finished edge at the top of the stairs.
Not every project is upstairs. In a third Kissimmee residence, the previous flooring was taken up to the plywood subfloor, and light wood-look plank was laid through the living room, hallway and bedrooms. Kissimmee is the Osceola County seat, south of Orlando and near St. Cloud and Poinciana.
Stairs take the longest. Each step is prepared, cut and fitted individually, and flooring adhesive is spread over the full tread rather than in spots; that helps level the step and fill minor gaps. Afterward, the carpet leaves with us.
