Our Winter Park project replaced second-floor carpet. We pulled it from the open loft, hallway, bedrooms and closets, right to the subfloor. Brown wood-look plank followed throughout, finished with transitions at the doorways.
Upstairs projects raise a question ground-floor projects don't: the staircase. Stair carpet wears soonest at the front edge of a step, and it's the hardest spot in a home to vacuum. A carpeted staircase may join the project. Steps get stripped and cut back individually, the old bullnose comes off, and a new tread, riser and nosing go on, carrying the color from the loft to the ground floor. The top and bottom steps get extra attention, keeping the rises even and the nosing right under your foot.
Winter Park is in Orange County, just north of downtown Orlando, close to our crew's starting point. Rolled-up carpet, pad and tack strips travel downstairs and leave with our crew, not in your trash bins. Neighbors in Casselberry and Altamonte Springs had related projects: a dark-stained floor swapped for a light natural plank, and gray vinyl plank running from a kitchen through to a bathroom.
Tear-out, subfloor prep, installation, transitions and trim belong to every project; you pick the floor and decide whether the staircase joins in.

Yes, exactly our Winter Park project: carpet pulled from the loft, hallway and bedrooms to the subfloor, brown wood-look plank throughout, transitions at the doorways.
Often, yes; stairs count among our specialties. We cut back and clean the step, trowel flooring adhesive over the whole tread instead of a few beads, and set the new tread in it. This levels the step and keeps it from feeling hollow. A straight run between two walls is simplest; an open side, with tread ends showing, needs a finished return, and winding steps get shaped individually. More on stair flooring.
Access stays limited while steps sit open and the adhesive sets. With the staircase as the only way up, say so early, and the order of operations accounts for it.
Yes. Railing updates fit a stair project: mention it on the phone, and the railing gets looked at during the visit and included in the scope.
The underlayment does the heavy lifting. Foam, felt and cork each dampen sound differently, and thicker boards help a little. In a condo or townhome, check whether the association sets a sound rating before choosing.
